Surely this is an attempt at self-deprecating humour for the camera. Nobody actually wears their jeans below their knees, right?

At least they can't run away fast after they rob you.

This is my old neighborhood liquor store in Baltimore! the guy in the background looks so familiar, I'd bet on it. it even looks like he's doing the "C C" sign for "Charm City"! they are definitely hamming it up with those saggy draw'z.

Do you remember the source for this photo? I can't locate it with a TinEye reverse image search.

Thanks.

If this is not benedetto's old liquor store, then it is mine, on Columbus between 105 and 106 in Manhattan.

Arbroath can you tell us which it is?

Hi Stan, I found it here ...

and here ...

Within minutes of each other.

I haven't got a clue where it originally from, or indeed where it was taken.

Though it's an urban legend, when I see people with their trousers at half mast in a pub, I like to have a chat to a pal about how it originated and how it's a prison thing which signified that the person showing their underwear was looking to be the recipient of bumsex. It's amazing how the next time they walk past they invariably look like their mum dressed them properly.

WordyGrrl said...

Yep, it's a prison thing but not for the reasons you think. Snopes has the scoop:

P.S. I worked briefly in a prison (as an officer, not an inmate!) and their uniforms are heavily laundered "hand me downs" so the elastic's usually stretched out and ineffective at holding the pants up.

Thanks, Kev - and WordyGrrl.

Thanks WordyGrrl... I had fallen for the urban myth. Nice to be sorted out (and the truth makes so much more sense).

Ratz I am totally using that.
