Man who saved for 10 years to buy dream car banned for speeding the first time he took it out

A businessman saved for 10 years to buy his dream car — and was banned for speeding the first time he took it out. Nicholas Brown, 42, bought the classic Porsche sports car to fulfil his boyhood dream of owning one. But on his first drive in the car Brown was clocked by police at 106mph.

Magistrates heard Brown was on the way back from the car dealership after saving up for 10 years to buy the £80,000 car. Stuart Ratti, defending, said: "The vehicle is a classic car which he had dreamed of owning since boyhood.

"It is designed to travel at speed in excess of what he was doing in appropriate circumstances. He insists that when he was told of the speed he was doing it took him by surprise. Speed is not something he condones — he is a mature, professional man and extremely embarrassed about it.

Brown, of Llangadog, Carmarthenshire, who admitted speeding, already had six points on his licence when he was caught. Magistrates in Brecon heard Brown's career as a leading architectural surveyor could be in ruins if he was banned. But the court ruled Brown was going too fast to escape a ban and they disqualified him for eight weeks with a £380 fine.

Would a "mature, professional man" who doesn't condone speeding have six points on his license already? Somehow, I kind of doubt it.
