Zoo employees save squirrel from tiger

One squirrel's visit to the Buffalo Zoo last Wednesday turned into a fight for survival, and it was all caught on video.

The squirrel found itself in a tree inside the tiger habitat at the zoo. Unfortunately, a tiger spotted the creature and showed off some of its hunting skills for the crowd.

The big cat climbed the tree and actually knocked the squirrel to the ground before chasing it toward another tree.

Zoo employees stepped in, distracted the tiger and eventually saved the incredibly lucky little squirrel.

So the one time this big cat could instinctively kill his meal and eat it the zookeepers have to save the squirrel. We have plenty of squirrels. I would have let him have it. Poor cat. - Debbie.

Zookeepers spend so much time trying to keep their animals fit, healthy and happy. Unless there was some sort of health concern with letting the squirrel get eaten (I mean, from the tiger's perspective, of course there's a health concern from the squirrel's perspective) it seems to me that this little catch and eat game could have been rather beneficial.

I agree with above but the zookeepers probably didn't want to horrify the visitors. After all, they want to see cuddly, big-cat tigers, not actual predators as they are.
