Dog pulled from icy Hudson River last month after falling off boat dies when same boat catches fire

Just weeks after being rescued from the icy waters of the Hudson River, a four-year-old German Shepherd died in an early morning fire at Manhattan's Chelsea Piers on Friday.

An electrial fire broke out just before 3 a.m. on Mark Stoss' boat at Pier 59. He had been having problems with his heaters in the cold overnight hours. He was able to get off of the boat but his dog, named Choloe was trapped in the flames. Stoss suffered some minor smoke inhalation.

Stoss, his fiance Isabel Anaya, and another German shepherd lived on the large, three-bedroom catamaran that had been docked at Chelsea Piers for about eight months

Firefighters say they couldn't get a fire fighting boat into the docks because the tide was too low. It took them almost two hours to get the fire under control. The fire came nearly a month after Chloe fell from the boat and had to be rescued by police.
