Boozy bankers embarrased by 'stuck in lift picture'

A group of city-based traders have been left embarrassed after a picture of them stuck in a lift after a night out in London emerged. The seven stockbrokers became trapped between floors for several hours following a night out eating sushi and drinking at the popular Roka Japanese restaurant in Canary Wharf, east London.

The lift, in the Park Pavilion, a restaurant complex at Canary Wharf tower, malfunctioned just after midnight last Friday night. The group were stuck for almost three hours after their calls for help went unheeded. No one heard their calls to sound the alarm and the emergency button also failed to work.

When engineers prised open the doors they found the group, who had been out celebrating, curled up asleep together on the floor. The lift is understood to be designed for only four people. One of the group took pictures of the incident.

Unconfirmed reports claimed the group were “jumping up and down”. Lavatory options were obviously limited. Several investigations have now been launched by the traders’ superiors and the building’s owners to determine the cause of the lift failure.
