Blushing bride Stacey Roberts got a wedding ring … of burly police. After six months planning her big day she found it clashed with a race rally by the English Defence League. And she ended up saying “I do” against the clatter of a police helicopter. The backdrop for her wedding photos was a cordon of riot officers.
Stacey, 31, faced scenes of chaos as she tied the knot with long-time partner Mark, 36, at Rochdale town hall. She said: “It was like a battle zone. When we were exchanging our vows I wanted to hear wedding bells, not demonstrators booing, police dogs barking and a helicopter hovering overhead. We had to ask the registrar to speak up because people couldn’t hear over the din.
“When I came out afterwards all I could hear was sarcastic wolf whistling.” Stacey and doughnut-maker Mark have been offered £1,000 compensation by the council after finding themselves in the middle of the English Defence League rally.

Police made 34 arrests as 550 EDL supporters clashed with 100 anti-fascist demonstrators. Stacey revealed that an aunt was so upset she had to leave and one of the couple’s six children was shaking with fear. She added: “It was just so sad our big day had to be spoiled.” A council spokesman said they were powerless to prevent the demonstration.

They had six children before getting around to tying the knot?
Imagine if they'd been a bi-racial couple...
Why didnt they face the other way then?
Why didn't she wear a bag over her head?
