It was a hairy experience for one Regina letter carrier when he was chased down by a determined dog that didn't let a window stand in its way. Brad Holmes said Monday's dog incident was the scariest moment in his 29-year letter-carrying career.
He said he was delivering mail on his usual route in Glencairn when he came along one particular house with dogs barking at the window inside. "I'm finishing putting the mail in the mailbox and turning to go back out their walk and heading across their driveway and their dog came through their window," recalled Holmes.
After hearing the dog — he described the dog as a large black Labrador retriever weighing between 70 and 100 pounds — smash through the window, he didn't stick around. "I went running for the next house, which is driveway to driveway," said Holmes. "Thank God (there was) a shovel sitting there and I grabbed the spade and basically tossed my mail.
"I had to drop it, and two-handed the spade and basically was bent over trying to keep (the dog) as far away as (possible)." He said the dog persisted, but he was able to keep the dog at bay with the shovel. Holmes said the dog's owner did come out and tried to restrain her dog. "(The owner) was upset," said Holmes. "Anyone would be if their dog goes through a window."

Our window cleaner was terrified of our dalmation which would run up to the window and bark at him when he was cleaning the second floor. He was afraid one day it wouldn't manage to stop when it got to the window and then they'd all be airborne.
