Groom saves his bride after their wedding car blows up

A bride has spoken of her terror after her hair and dress caught fire when the wedding car she was being driven in burst into flames at the weekend. Stephanie and Nathan Suter were married at St Matthews Church in Albury, Australia, on Saturday afternoon and were on their way to have their photos taken when from the vintage Chevrolet burst into flames.

The driver and Mr Suter escaped but Ms Suter's foot was stuck. "My husband had to actually pull me out of the car, my hair and dress were actually on fire," she said.

"It happened so fast, I just couldn't believe it. All I remember is basically seeing smoke, then just feeling the heat of the flames and just trying to get out of that car. I was absolutely petrified." The 33-year-old driver suffered serious burns to his face, hands, and a leg when he tried to get to the fire extinguisher in the car.

He is being treated in the burns unit of the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. Inspector Lynelle Rodwell says Ms Suter "received some flash burns to her arms, she was treated at the scene for shock and was released shortly after."

Well, at least they were coming /from/ the wedding and she didn't have to cancel it or turn up half-frazzled.
