'PC Nipples' teaches boys a lesson

Four police officers held a 90 minute 'restorative justice conference' with five schoolboys after they called a woman constable 'PC Nipples.' The group of 13-year-old lads were made to attend the session which usually involves victims of crime coming face to face with their perpetrators. In this instance the woman PC, a sergeant and two other officers met with the boys to make them aware of the consequences their behavior had on the victim. The meeting, which was also attended by a deputy head of year and the boys' parents, ended with them apologising to the woman officer.

But a father of one of the boys today accused the police of wasting their time and resources and for using a 'sledgehammer to crack a nut.' The woman officer had visited Purbeck School in Wareham, Dorset, last month to talk to the boys about a playground scrap as her role as a school liaison officer. It is understood she was called the names 'PC Nipples' and 'PC Ball Sack' while she was out of the room and was told of the remarks moments later.

The boys were sent home and their parents were informed about the incident that night and asked to attend the restorative justice conference which took place last week. Reg Foy, whose son was one of those involved, said: "All the parents of the boys were telephoned and called to this justice conference. The meeting consisted of three uniformed officers, one being a sergeant to 'chair' it, one plain clothes community safety manager, one teacher, four sets of parents and the five boys concerned. The meeting lasted for one-hour-and-forty minutes and concluded with the boys apologising to the female constable for name calling.

"At the end of the day it was a bit of name calling, the boys were wrong and they apologised. Including time spent on paper work and travelling to the school this must have involved hours of police time. It just seemed to be a waste of their time and resources and was like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut. I presume this woman officer will be called other names during her policing career, is she going to hold a restorative justice conference with all of those who do it?"

Maybe that's just what we need. Many people today seem to be mannerless and unthinking. Those boys will be better for this. Now if we could just retrain the stupid people who believe Fox TV and Rush Limbaugh speak the Gospel truth, and Christians who are pro-war, pro gun proliferation, pro rich people and anti-poor people (including often themselves), what a better world this would be.

Isn't it funny that this father can be so eloquent about the failings of the police, but his son is so crass as to be calling a woman names. Maybe he should concentrate on passing some of his manners to his son.

If even a couple of those boys learned their lesson, I think it was worth it. A female police constable can't be shaken by silly name calling from teenagers, it's an occupational hazard they have accepted. This was done for the boys' benefit.
