Young boy attempts to break into Australian vets to get himself a kitten

A young boy has been caught on CCTV trying to break into a Whyalla veterinary clinic. In the footage, captured last Friday at about 6.40pm, the boy becomes frustrated after discovering the clinic is closed for the night. Undeterred, he at first uses a small rock then a hubcap to try and break a security window.

Staff believe the boy was trying to steal one of the cats the clinic has up for adoption. After various unsuccessful attempts to break in, he decides to get a bigger rock, which is so heavy he has to stop and rest several times as he hauls it to the clinic, before hurling it at the glass window.

The boy eventually left after being unable to break his way through the window. Whyalla Veterinary Clinic principal veterinarian Dr Andrew Melville-Smith said he was stunned at the determination and audacity of the child. "This heavy duty laminated glass, you would need to ram it with a car to break it," he said.

"What is disturbing is that the video clearly shows this youth knew the difference between right and wrong as he went to great lengths to make sure no one was watching." Initial estimates of the damage to the windows are around $2000.
