Australian man rescued then arrested after spending night up to his neck in mud

The family of a 21-year-old man stranded in the middle of Joondalup lake overnight says it is a miracle he survived.

Shane Parker became stuck in neck-deep mud as he waded through Lake Joondalup in West Australia's state capital, Perth, on his way home from a music festival. The 21-year-old was rescued by the RAC helicopter and taken to Joondalup hospital.

Mr Parker's foster mother Amy Giles says he was lucky to escape serious injury. "I've got goosebumps every time I think about him being up to his neck with tiger snakes and whatever else is in there," she said.

"You know, when they brought him in to land, they actually hosed him down with a fire brigade hose so you can just imagine how it would have been." Mr Parker was later arrested on an unrelated matter for failing to appear in court on a charge of assault occasioning bodily harm.
