She told Inverness Sheriff Court: “He seemed to look to be under the influence of alcohol. He then got off the platform on to the rail track and he lay down so his legs were in the middle of the track and his torso was over the tracks. He was there for 10 seconds then got up and tried to climb back on to the platform”.

The landscaper left the station and went to a nearby butcher, where he was told to leave by staff because of his drunken behaviour. The fiscal said police were called at 4.20pm to Nairn High Street where he was shouting at passers by and waving his arms about. Defence lawyer Ken Ferguson told the court his client had finished work early and went drinking with colleagues to celebrate Christmas.
He said Fraser had no reason to be at the station and could only explain his presence there as being a short cut home. Mr Ferguson added that the 25-year-old had little recollection of events, but believes he slipped on ice at the platform and fell onto the tracks. However, he could not explain why he lay down for 10 seconds. Sheriff Margaret Neilson fined Fraser, of Nairn, £400.
