Probation for loofah attack woman

A woman who attacked her boyfriend with a bathroom loofah in a row over the TV remote control has been placed on probation for two years. Angela Jones admitted assaulting Mark McPherson by wrapping the rope from the loofah around his neck at a house in Thornliebank, Glasgow, last April.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how the 47-year-old later contacted police and admitted what she had done. At an earlier hearing, the court heard how an argument broke out between the couple over the television remote control.

A short time later, Jones took the loofah from the bathroom and put it around Mr McPherson's neck while he was sitting on the sofa. There was some degree of compression, but Mr McPherson managed to free himself and was left conscious and breathing.

Jones later reported herself to police and Mr McPherson was taken to the Victoria Infirmary suffering from bruising to the front of his neck. Placing Jones on probation, Sheriff Lindsay Wood told her: "Your behaviour that night was unacceptable and clearly this is something which has to be addressed."
