Newborn baby sparked drama that put mum, gran and aunt in hospital

The birth of baby Evie-Mae Williams triggered a life-and-death drama which saw three members of her family end up in hospital. First, Evie-Mae’s mum Ann had to be admitted to intensive care following complications after an emergency Caesarian operation to deliver the baby girl, and for 12 hours, her life hung in the balance.

Then, when news of her critical condition was broken to the family, Ann’s sister Sarah collapsed with shock – and her mother Karen was rushed to A&E with a suspected heart attack. Doctors at Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil, believe Ann suffered a severe allergic reaction to one of the drugs given during surgery and she lost the ability to breath for herself.

Ann, 30, of Forest View, Mountain Ash, was unconscious and put on a ventilator, while her sister Sarah, who 7-years-ago had life-saving brain surgery, was placed under observation by concerned doctors. But the drama did not end there – when Ann and Sarah’s parents Karen and Ashley Mole arrived at the hospital, Karen also collapsed with chest pains.

Karen, 49, said: “When it comes to medical dramas, we don’t do things by half. Poor Ashley didn’t know where to turn or who to stay with.” Thankfully, all three women have made full recoveries. Baby Evie-Mae weighed 7lbs 11ozs. She is now three weeks old and is thriving.

Are these the people we want passing on their genes? How do they function in the world without having a medical crisis every time they encounter a bit of stress?
