Malaysian neighbours sign peace deal to stop bitter feud

After three years of bitter quarrels, two feuding neighbours in Malaysia's southern Johor state, have called a truce but a mere handshake will not do. The promise of civility between neighbours has to be in black and white. Both parties have decided to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to stop arguing with each other and live in peace. Ng Chee Leng, 33, and Yong Nguong Ping, 43, want to bury their differences by bringing their case to the Public Complaints Bureau.

The bitterness started when Ng became irritated with the constant barking of Yong’s two dogs and complained to the Central Johor Baru Municipal Council (MPJBT) and the PCB. “I had also lodged a police report against Yong after he played loud music late at night which disturbed my sleep,” he said.



Yong said he was angry at Ng for complaining and lodging a police report against him. “I admit that I had thrown several cans of paint into his house and driven my car into his house gate. However, Ng and I have decided to put our feud in the past and make peace with this MoU,” he said after the MoU signing ceremony held at the PCB office.

PCB then sought the assistance of Johor Baru MCA public complaints bureau chief Michael Tay to be the peacemaker. “If either of the two men decides to break the MoU, the other can bring this document and present it either to the police or in court. I hope both men can live in peace with each other,” said Tay.
