Australian woman injured when pyjamas in microwave spark fire

An elderly Gold Coast woman is in hospital after trying to warm up her pyjamas in her microwave oven, sparking a house fire.

Janette Wardell, aged in her late 60s, was overcome by smoke and shock when the microwave exploded and her Burleigh Waters duplex burst into flames on Monday night. She managed to escape with the help of neighbours but her Felicia Court home was extensively damaged.

She was taken to Robina Hospital where she is recovering. "She told the police she was trying to warm up her pyjamas in the microwave when it exploded," neighbour Alby Panther said.

"It's a big no-no but it was an accident - we're always wise later on. Janette lives alone and her house is a mess from the fire. It's quite sad really."
