It must be a vestigial reflex from the cats kitten days when its mommy used to carry it around. I wonder if vets often use this when handling cats.

Yes, vets and their assistants use this trick all the time when handling kitties. (I haven't see the clip, but they hold the cats with their hands clamped over that spot on the neck.)Lurker111
I tried this with three of my fours cats. It didn't work. The fourth cat is hiding.
