Missing budgie flies himself in to RSPCA

A beloved budgie which went missing for six days has been reunited with its owners. Bert, one of two budgies owned by the Brown family of Sovereign Park, disappeared.

But he must have decided to cut his adventure short, as he turned up of his own accord at the RSPCA in York six days later. Helen Brown said she had called the RSPCA to see if anyone had found a budgie on Saturday morning because Bert’s companion, Lola, was out of sorts without him.

She said: “She stopped talking and playing with toys and she wouldn’t come out of her cage. We were thinking of getting her a new friend.” She said they had considered getting a new feathered friend for Lola, when the RSPCA called her back to say that Bert had just flown into their centre and she could come and pick him up.

Helen said they were grateful to everyone who helped them in finding Bert, including a caller from Driffield who had found a budgie that was not Bert. “People don’t usually get budgies back when they go missing,” she said.
