Cat that lost two back legs learns to walk again

Deuce the cat lost his two back legs and then survived in the wild for over a month. While he is a sad little sight, he has adapted to his disability admirably. When Deuce was discovered in Oklahoma, investigators thought someone had intentionally cut off his back legs, but his vet now believes he was injured in some sort of farm accident.

"He's a total miracle... to think a cat could survive an injury to that degree and then be able to live out in the environment without any kind of food or protection," said a vet at Quail Springs clinic where Deuce is recovering.

Prosthetic limbs are on the cards, but Deuce doesn't like his injured legs to be touched. Since healing over, he has developed an ability to hold himself up on his front legs for short bursts.

"He seems to have figured it out," said the vet. "He's compensating much better than we ever thought he would." Now that Deuce can almost walk on his own, it has given his doctors hope that they can put him in a long term home. First he will go to a foster home, so the Humane Society can see if he's adoptable.
