Boulder police arrested a man on suspicion of first-degree assault after his friend said the man beat him up for not finding his lost hat late on Monday night.
Bradley McChesney, 42, was walking with a friend along a bike path near Broadway and Canyon Boulevard at around 10:30 p.m., according to a police report. The friend told police that McChesney became angry when he could not find his hat, and asked the friend to find it.
When he was unable to find the hat, the friend said that McChesney kicked the back of his knee, causing him to fall down. The victim said McChesney then proceeded to punch and kick him while he was on the ground. Officers reported that the victim had several abrasions as well as a swollen eye.
Police contacted McChesney at 13th Street and Canyon Boulevard. McChesney told police that he was the one who was assaulted by the victim and another unknown male, who dragged him across the ground and tried to punch him because he was from the south. McChesney said he threw a punch in self-defence but hit a tree, not the victim. McChesney faces charges of first-degree assault and remains in custody on $25,000 bond.
