Vandals have spray-painted a donkey homed at an animal rescue centre to make it look like a zebra, Sussex Police said.
The animal was covered in grey and black paint at the Sussex Horse Rescue Trust centre in Hempstead Lane, Uckfield, overnight on Wednesday.
Vandals also sprayed an obscene image on another donkey kept at the centre for neglected and abandoned animals. A spokeswoman for the trust called those responsible "cruel".
Sussex Police said: "The report was made by the owner at a farm in Hempstead lane, Uckfield, on 15 September, that one of their donkeys has been spray-painted. A second donkey was also found to have paint on it. Neighbourhood policing officers are making inquiries."
