Chihuahua that walks on front paws needs home

An unusual Chihuahua who walks using only her front legs is in need of a new home. Officials with Lee County Domestic Animal Services say the remarkable dog came in as a stray. Because Trixie came in as a stray, little is known about the 7-year-old dog's background information and medical history. However, one thing that is known about Trixie is that she is very resourceful.

After examining Trixie, a DAS veterinarian determined that her back legs were paralyzed from an old pelvic injury. While the cause of her injury is unknown, she has been able to compensate for the loss of function in her back legs by lifting all of her body weight up onto her front legs in order to walk.

When she was found, Trixie's nails were extremely long and she was in desperate need of a good dental cleaning. Lee County DAS officials say it is obvious Trixie has not had the best care in life so far, but they're hoping to change her luck.

DAS says applications for adoption are being accepted from interested people who can provide a quiet, adult home for the amazing little dog. She is shy and timid, but has been very trusting and friendly with the veterinary and shelter staff.
