Couple who filmed themselves forcing spider into toddler's mouth jailed

A Grimsby man and woman have been jailed for subjecting two children to a catalogue of cruelty and ill-treatment – and capturing their vile behaviour on film. Shocking footage played to Grimsby Crown Court, filmed by James Kirman and his partner Rachel Drinkell, showed the pair carrying out a variety of despicable acts.

Relatives of their victims, sitting in the public gallery, cried as they watched the shocking footage, which showed Drinkell twice sounding an airhorn into the ear of a baby and both Kirman and Drinkell pinning down a toddler and forcing a spider into her mouth. The distressing clip showed the child screaming and cowering in the corner of a bedroom as the pair grabbed her and pinned her to the floor.

The court heard the couple also filmed themselves having sex while the children were in the same room. However, their appalling behaviour did not come to light until an incident involving a child holding an infant against a hot radiator causing severe burns. Despite the injuries, neither of the adults in charge of the children contacted emergency services until 20 minutes later.

A paramedic discovered the injured child in a shower with severe burns and he was later taken to the specialist burns unit at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield. Kirman, 31, and Drinkell, 24, admitted the cruelty charges which related to the failure to supervise the children properly. The also admitted the delay in contacting medical services following the radiator incident. Both were sentenced to 32 months in prison.

32 months is not enough time for the emotional and physical scarring they did to those children.

Agreed - unless it's 32-months in general population.

Put 'em against a wall and spend a couple bucks. Problem solved -- permanently.

I hope the "relatives of their victims" think a little more carefully about who they leave their children with next time. Appalling on so many levels.
