Man trapped under eight ton steamroller as he 'tried to steal it'

A man became trapped under an eight ton steamroller as he allegedly tried to steal it. The 25-year-old had to be rescued by fire crews after getting stuck under the roller on Johnnie Cope Road in Tranent, East Lothian at 3.45pm on Sunday.

After an hour and a half he was freed and taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary under police escort with a serious leg injury. Three men, aged 25, 26 and 47, have been charged with the attempted theft of the steamroller.



Two of them appeared at Haddington Sheriff Court on Monday. A warrant has been issued for the 25-year-old who is still in hospital.

A police spokesperson said: "Three men have been charged with the alleged attempted theft of the steamroller. Two of the men are due to appear at Haddington Sheriff Court today. A 25-year-old man has been reported for warrant."
