My old barber told me he used to get women coming into his shop asking for a hair cut simply because he was sooooo much cheaper than the hairdresser up the road. The women would then have him take an age messing about with their hair. The result being that he would have to take two or three times as long before the woman was happy with her haircut as he would with a man. As such he was losing money every time he cut a womans hair.

So this makes sense to me.
Still, it is gender discrimination.
