Water company hope to reunite people with false teeth found at sewage treatment works

A utility company is trying to reunite nine people with their false teeth in time for Christmas. The dentures were all recovered from Severn Trent's sewage treatment works in Monkmoor, Shrewsbury.

The teeth are thought to have been flushed down toilets or dropped down plug-holes. Pictures of the teeth have been posted on the company's website where people can view them and send a message if they recognise them.

Ken Leah, who was a sewer worker in Shrewsbury for about 50 years and now spends time volunteering at the works looking after wildlife habitats, is heading the campaign.

Mr Leah, who said he had seen all manner of rubbish flushed by residents, is hoping the campaign will remind people that items like teeth can block sewers and cause flooding.

I knew a guy who worked at a sewage treatment plant and he told me the staff there had built a sculpture out of the dentures they had found.

I don't know what they cost, but I don't think I would want something that was pulled out of the sewer so I could put it in my mouth.

All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth. And the rest of the teeth attached to them. No shit.

Things falling into your own bog cause distress and some serious thought about if they're now worth retrieving. I mean yeah they're expensive 'n all and you could at least bleach them, but at least you know where they've been and that it's your own mess.. but these have traveled the gauntlet of (other people's) poo. For miles.
