Two hibernating tortoises lost after car stolen

A car containing two hibernating tortoises was stolen from a train station car park, police said. The reptiles were being kept in a blue plastic box in the boot of the car, which was taken from Lincoln Central between 11.30 and 1pm on Saturday.

The tortoises, both aged nine, were stolen with the green Mazda 325 vehicle from the long-stay car park. One was a male of the Greek variety and the other was a female Marginated tortoise.



Constable Kristene Mikkonen, of British Transport Police (BTP), said: "As well as being valuable the owner and I are concerned for the safety and well-being of the reptiles.

"I would appeal to anyone who has knowledge of their whereabouts or any information regarding those responsible for stealing the car to get in touch with BTP as a matter of urgency. Also, anyone who is offered tortoises in unusual circumstances should report it."
