Woman read Bible as she drove along busy road on way to funeral

A woman was caught reading the Bible at the wheel of her car as she drove on one of Scotland's busiest roads. The motorist told police she was rehearsing a passage to read at a funeral as she drove along the A90 dual carriageway between Dundee and Perth.

The driver, who has not been named, was stopped when road traffic officers noticed her talking to herself and not watching the road as she drove. A Tayside Police spokeswoman said: "We often talk about some of the more unusual sights witnessed by our patrols.

"This weekend, a road policing unit patrol passed a car travelling on the A90 dual carriageway between Dundee and Perth and noticed the female driver in deep concentration and apparently talking to herself. As the officers drew alongside the car, the driver was found to be reading from a Bible propped up on the steering wheel.

"Upon being stopped the driver tried to justify herself by stating she was on her way to a funeral and was rehearsing a reading from the Bible. Although the officers were sympathetic to the driver's situation, the complete lack of vehicle control earned the driver a fine and points on her licence."
