Maniac drove for three miles down wrong side of dual carriageway at 80mph

A maniac drove at 80mph down the wrong side of a dual carriageway for three miles as he risked dozens of lives. Terrifying footage of the incident was captured by horrified motorists travelling on the correct side of the road alongside the driver. The shocking clip shows the moron driving into oncoming traffic on the A726 between East Kilbride and Newton Mearns on the outskirts of Glasgow – and even waving at other motorists. Drivers are forced to swerve to avoid the silver Renault Clio, with many ending up on the verge. Miraculously a smash is avoided, before the motorist finally veers off the carriageway and hurtles up a slip road and disappears.

Two workmates travelling to Glasgow began filming after spotting the driver tearing along the rain-soaked dual carriageway. The friends overtake the vehicle and begin signalling to oncoming cars in a bid to avoid a pile-up. They also wind down their window and desperately try to attract the Renault driver’sattention. Amazingly, he angrily gestures at the pair when he realises they are filming him – before speeding up. The footage begins with a yellow van swerving and narrowly missing the Clio. Other stunned drivers flash their headlights and blast horns as they dodge the maniac.

One of the friends filming the incident warns: “There’s going to be a smash. We need to get away from this.” Eventually, the driver swerves round a white van and blasts up a slip road towards Newton Mearns. Police are now hunting the driver. The man who shot the video, who asked not to be named, said: “I couldn’t believe it when I saw this guy appearing on the wrong side of the motorway. He actually turned and waved at me when he spotted me filming it on my phone. I could see him smiling and looking at me as cars went shooting by him with their horns going.

“There were cars swerving on to the hard shoulder and across lanes as he suddenly appeared coming straight towards them, it’s a miracle nobody was killed. If drivers coming towards him hadn’t been so quick to move there could have been carnage. It would only have taken someone to change a radio or glance away for a second and the result would have been horrific. When I saw him my first thought was that it must have been someone trying to commit suicide by smashing into another car. At one point an ambulance had to practically swerve off the road as he passed it. The sooner the police get hold of the guy the better because he clearly doesn’t care about killing himself or anyone else.”

Well, if all those people weren't driving on the wrong side of the road, (that would be the left side), this wouldn't have been an issue.

Yes the guy was driving dangerously, but so were the people paying more attention to him than their driving.

A motorway policeman once told me that he has never attended an accident where there hasn't been at least one subsequent accident caused by rubberneckers.
