Squirrel rabies is rare but not unknown. It depends on where they live if they want to go for the rabies shots. But the kid probably at least needs (needed?) a tetanus (?).
A trip to the doc is definitely in order, to get expert advice.
Hehe! That was certainly a quick change in sentiment! Super cute squirrel though--so fat and fluffy. I've always wished I could have one as a pet as well. Wonder how the boy got his hands on one in the first place; squirrels are usually so speedy.
box trap for sure... not going to hold a squirrel again anytime soon is he? I am wondering about the comment "I'm not going to kill it"... sounds like killing things is a common thing in that kids life. I'm glad the squirrel got away. And yes you can get rabies from a squirrel, and it can be fatal (rare).

I thought that was a chipmunk rather than a squirrel. STill.. Hahaha.. (schadenfreude is alive and well)
