Man hunting hogs accidentally shot girlfriend

Officials in North Florida say a 52-year-old woman is hospitalised after her boyfriend shot her in the legs during a hog-hunting trip. Flagler County Sheriff's deputies say 52-year-old Steven Egan was inside a tent on Saturday night when he saw a hog and shot at it.

"You hear sound in the bushes," said property owner Rob Cowart. "You never shoot in the bushes." Egan told authorities he thought he hit the hog and left the tent to search for it. He said he heard a noise continue in the brushes, thought it was the hog and fired again in that direction.

"Returning back to the area he thought he shot it," said Major Steve Clair. "He heard rumbling in the bushes, shot again and it ended up being his girlfriend." Deputies said Egan's girlfriend Lisa Simmons was struck with a .30-calibre bullet in both legs and was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in serious condition.

Simmons had left the tent to pick up oranges that grow wild on the property, according to officials. "He was very apologetic when we were on the call," said Clair. "It was an accident, it was an accident and that's how we're looking at it as an accidental shooting." Authorities said Simmons underwent surgery and is recovering at Halifax Medical Center.

Was his girlfriend mute? Didn't she scream or say anything after being shot the first time?

Hogs don't scream, they squeal.

That isn't an accident that is stupidity. Shooting at a target you hear isn't the same a shooting a target you can actually see. She's lucky she isn't dead.

Surely you mean he's lucky she isn't dead? She's OTOH is very unlucky.
