Spanish Mayor bans spitting and farting in public

Mayor Julián Atienza has issued a by law on good behaviour in La Toba, Guadalajara. A municipal by-law issued in the small town of La Toba, Guadalajara, reads: ‘The ‘Señor Alcade’ lets it be known – No spitting or breaking wind in public’.

The Mayor says that he wants to do away with all uncivilised forms of behaviour, and the lack of education and social values by issuing the by-law which goes on, ‘Cover your mouth with your hand if you sneeze or cough, and turn away from anybody close by.’

The document also notes other problems, the excessive noise disturbing other residents, the litter in the streets, building works or opening a business with no licence and the ill-treatment of animals.

The young IU left wing Mayor, Julián Atienza, says he realises breaking his by-law cannot result in any administrative fine, but doing so would be blameworthy in a civic and moral way. The order has now been approved in the Town Hall.
