Woman who does not take littering lightly punched female litterbug in the face

An Indianapolis woman apparently took Sunday's celebration of Earth Day very seriously. Andrea Jane Ginther, 44, told authorities she was driving on Muncie's south side on Sunday afternoon when she saw a woman "toss a piece of paper on the ground." Ginther, according to a Muncie Police Department report, said she "does not take littering lightly," and stopped to confront the alleged litterer.

When two city police officers arrived at Memorial Drive and Mulberry Street a few minutes later, they reported finding Ginther punching the other woman in the face. Officer Matthew Hollans reported Ginther ignored officers' demand that she stop fighting, and wouldn't let go of the hair of her alleged victim - 23-year-old Mercadies Lanette Kirby of Muncie - when he and another patrolman tried to separate the women. The Indianapolis resident then struggled with the officers as they tried to place handcuffs on her wrists, Hollans wrote.

Witnesses - one of them Kirby's brother - said they saw Ginther pull her sport-utility vehicle to the side of the street near Kirby. The two women exchanged angry words before Ginther left her vehicle and approached Kirby "in a hostile manner," according to a nearby resident. Ginther was arrested on preliminary charges of battery resulting in bodily injury, resisting law enforcement and disorderly conduct. She was released from the Delaware County jail on Sunday night after posting a $6,000 bond.

Kirby - who told police that Ginther had tried to run her down with the SUV - was arrested on a preliminary charge of disorderly conduct. She was also released on Sunday night. Both women refused medical treatment at the scene, according to the MPD report. Court records reflect Ginther, a former Muncie resident, was convicted of fleeing law enforcement in Hancock County in 1999. Kirby was convicted of disorderly conduct in Delaware County in 2006.

We were laughing about this earlier today at work. Oh, the irony of the earth loving angry woman using her gas-guzzling SUV to try to run down the litterer.

Are we supposed to guess about the mugshots??? Which one is which? I guess it really doesn't matter, but as a "journalist" seems like Arbroath would make it clear...like with captions under the pictures/

My guess is that Andrea is the (white) woman in the left hand pic. and Mercadies is the black woman----my assumption is based on the ages stated and that "Mercadies" is a "blacker" name than Andrea..........but I could be wrong.

Did I miss something Arbroath/ Pesky details.

You can always click on the link that Arbroath gives with each article. It has each of the pictures marked. However, I thought the age difference between the two was significant enough to distinguish the two. If the lady on the left is 23 years old, she has a serious drug problem and couldn't afford the SUV.

Hahaha, Anonymous #1, I'm no journalist!

However, if you move your cursor over the composite photo and look at the bottom left-hand corner of your browser you'll notice that it is named "Andrea_Ginther_and_Mercadies_Kirby".

Which may give you a clue as to who is who.
