Vandalism of Picasso painting caught on camera

Police are searching for a vandal who appears to have been caught on video vandalising Pablo Picasso's "Woman in a Red Armchair" at a Houston art museum.

Mobile phone footage purports to show a man using a stencil to spray paint the shape of a bull onto Picasso's 1929 piece before quickly leaving the gallery.

Officials say that the vandalism happened on June 13 at the Menil Collection, in Houston, where the painting is one of nine Picassos.

Menil Collection spokesperson Vance Muse said that museum security officers almost immediately detected the vandalism and that the museum's chief conservator was able to begin repair work before the paint was dry. She added that the prognosis for the painting was "excellent".
