Fun day out ended in a 'tsunami of excrement'

A teenage girl has described her coach journey from hell where a toilet exploded and created a "tsunami of urine and excrement". Jessica Squires, 16, of New Addington, South London, had travelled to watch a host of pop stars at the T4 On The Beach event at Weston-super-Mare in Somerset. But her £35 journey to and from the event turned into a nightmare. Leaving from London Victoria, she claims the driver got lost, which meant she missed acts like The Wanted and X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos. Describing the return journey, Jessica said: "It was fine for the first 40 minutes, then the toilet exploded.

"It was a tsunami of urine and excrement going down the coach where we were all sitting – it was disgusting. There was poo down the middle of the aisle and it stank. We were saying to the driver 'please stop' so we could get off and he refused. Everyone was crying on the way back, there weren't any windows open." Jessica, who had travelled with her second cousin Dana, 33, sister Ellie, 14, her friend Elsie, 13, and boyfriend Danny, 16, said the coach continued to travel for an hour.



After numerous complaints, the driver finally stopped at a service station. Jessica explained: "He said 'I'm going to stop the coach for five minutes, if anyone is not back they will be left behind'. My boyfriend had to get a mop and clean the poo." The journey to the event had not been a success either. Jessica said: "At first everyone didn't know what was going on. Then the driver started telling us he was lost and wondering if we knew the way. One man had to get his sat-nav on his phone and we had to shout left and right. He decided to stop at a service station for half an hour and everyone was going mental."

The party arrived at 12.45pm – almost an hour after the event had started. And by the time they got there they were at the back of the beach as well, meaning they were watching the musical acts from a distance. Jessica added: "It did ruin our day and three of us are now ill. Me, my sister and her friend have had bad stomach aches." A spokesman for National Express said: "The overwhelming majority of our services to T4 passed without incident and we are concerned about this disappointing experience. Regrettably, customers on one of the return services from T4 deliberately flooded the coach toilet and were also verbally abusive to the driver, which clearly impacted on the service. Customer experience is of paramount importance to National Express."
