Dog died while trying to save suicidal, drunken owner from train

A dog was run over by a train moments after it managed to pull its drunken suicidal owner off railway tracks in the city of Karaganda in Kazakhstan.

The 48-year-old owner, who later said he wanted to commit suicide, drank a bottle of vodka and fell asleep on railway tracks on Thursday.

“Upon seeing the train, the dog started pulling its owner away. When train drivers saw the dog on the rail tracks, they used the emergency brake,” said Aida Muldasheva, an investigator with the local transport police department.

The dog managed to rescue the owner, but the train ran over its hind paws. The animal died instantly. The drunken man regained consciousness in the hospital. He was diagnosed with two fractured ribs and a shoulder injury.

This lovely dog gave up his own life for the waste of a human being. I'd rather have the dog alive.

Me too. The dog showed selflessness, courage and love. What a shame to waste its live on such a man.

I think its horrible that a dog can mean more too people then a human being. In no way am I excusing those who deliberately put animal in harms way or do them harm but for all we know this man could of just lost his wife or children or any other countless major stresses which accounts for his depression and feeling hopeless in life. How can people be so brainwashed into having there automatic response be the choosing of any king of animal before a human being...

to e: I'ts because people have bigger/better brains than dogs do. Humans are responsible for themselves, pets are dependent upon the humans.

Why didn't the drunk suicidal human leave the dog with someone, and then go kill himself. Apparently he didn't care.

There is a song called 'the hobo and the puppy' by Tommy Lee that was recorded around the 1950's/60's. It tells the story of a hobo that saves a puppy, the puppy grows up and is killed when the hobo falls asleep on the train tracks and the dog saves him. Probably the most depressing song I have ever heard.

People may have bigger brains, but we could certainly learn a great deal about behavior from dogs. Sorry, e., but my sympathies lie with the dog.

I think some people watch too many PETA adverts...

lets be realistic. why should we value a man when he did not value himself. my sorrow goes out to the dog. sorry some people can't see that.

' why should we value a man when he did not value himself'
should we not be more sympathetic towards someone in that state. if you have a child or a parent who feels hopeless and feels suicidal , have they lost there value and worth?
I am frighten by the lack of view that Human beings have value and are worth something. Isnt that why we hate wars and genocides and famines because they are crimes to human beings...all of which have value.
Perhaps this man was suicidal from people telling him his dog is of more value then him....

Anonymous, don't you think it's a little unreasonable to expect strict rationality and planning from a man who is in such a desperate mindset?

Also to those who think this man's life wasn't worth his dog's life: the dog would most likely disagree with you.
