Jewellery store offers free hunting rifle to customers who buy a diamond

Atlanta-based jewellery store, D. Geller and Son, is giving customers a voucher for a free hunting rifle when they spend more than $2,499 on a diamond. Owner Mike Geller said he got the idea, after seeing a similar offer at a Missouri car dealership.

“It’s unbelievable!” Geller said of the reaction to the promotion. “A lot of our customers are hunters, and it just seemed like a great thing to do," he added.

Geller said “You don’t just come in here, buy a diamond and grab a gun.” Instead, those who qualify will receive a voucher for Adventure Outdoors in Smyrna. "That way you have to qualify, you have to follow all the rules and regulations in the state of Georgia to own a gun.”

Geller doubts he’ll run out of diamonds, but said he expects the promotion to bring in a lot of people. “It’s interesting. It’s appealing to the men, I think” said one Cobb County woman who didn’t think it was a bad idea. But another woman who worried about safety said “I think it’s stupid.”

In Bowling for Columbine it showed a bank which did this too. Only in America.

Yeah, Ratz. It makes me ashamed, but we're not all like that!

The Dowry Tradition, US-style: She gets a shiny rock with which to make her friends jealous and he gets an excuse to spend 2am-? out of the house because he's being a "provider."

/I do think it's kind of a ripoff that grooms don't get a nice present they can flaunt in front of their friends.
