World's narrowest house under construction in Poland

A house measuring 120cm at its widest point and 71cm at its narrowest point is being built inbetween two buildings in Warsaw, Poland.The living conditions are described by the house's architect as "requiring a spaceship-like adaptability".



The art installation intends to stimulate its inhabitants with the unusual feeling of being restricted by their surroundings. The house will be inhabited at first by Israeli writer Edgar Keret and later on by other artists - for a few days or weeks at a time.



Architect Jakub Szczesny, who designed the structure said: "It's the most challenging project I ever had comparing to whatever I've done in Israel, Palestinian Autonomy or Australia, it's basically the width, or rather the lack of width of this building.

"It's the matter of putting it there because it's going to be pretty hard to mount it and then probably the living conditions in it will require a spaceship-like adaptability of a person who will spend a couple of days". The house is due to open on October 20, and will be inhabited throughout the winter.
