Man found with 1.7kg of mini gold bullion bars stashed in his rectum

Indian customs department arrested a 65-year-old passenger at Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) in Bangalore on Tuesday evening and retrieved 15 gold biscuits weighing 1.7kg worth Rs. 53 lakh, (£62,000, $100,000), from his derrière. The arrested man, Mohammed Hasan Nizamuddin, is a Sri Lankan citizen.

He had arrived at BIA from Dubai and was supposed to travel to Chennai. The gold biscuits were packed in condoms and concealed in his rectum. Customs superintendent Mahalingaiah said: “We questioned him when we found him walking suspiciously. There were inconsistencies in his replies. Our suspicions were proved right when he passed through the metal detectors.”

Following this, Mohammed was taken to the toilet and ordered to defecate. A customs official said, “We were surprised when the gold, which was taped in three packets and covered with condoms, started rolling out. We don’t think he could have swallowed the gold, we suspect someone had pushed the gold in his anus before he boarded the flight to Bangalore.”

“We are questioning him about the source and destination of the gold consignment. We will get a clear picture after the investigations are completed,” the official said.  Mohammed has been booked under the Customs Act.
