When she found herself alone and out in the cold, this little kitten sought out a warm place to stay for the night. And her temporary home turned out being better than sliced bread.
The kitten took refuge in a bag of freshly-baked loaves left outside Hickson and Black’s delicatessen in Chorlton, Lancashire. Staff were shocked when they opened the delivery bag and found her asleep inside. The deli bosses are now looking after her – and have nicknamed her Deli-cat.
Jay Hickson, 33, co-founder of the deli, said: “The bread is delivered at about 8am, and it’s double bagged to protect it from the weather. We started to bring it inside and amongst the bags was this kitten. When the bread arrives it’s still warm from the oven, so presumably she must have gone in there for the warmth.
“We took her into one of the back rooms, so that she could have a totter about and some food. There was no collar on her, but she’s so small we presume she can’t have got far from her home. We left her safely in the back office with food and a litter tray, but when we went back she’d been pulling things off the walls.” One of Jay’s colleagues is keeping the kitten safe at home, while they try to trace her owners.
