I think i'll pass, cant stand rabbit

Heh!

I only ate rabbit once, without being told what it was.

When I was told, I was violently ill.

I've never been sure whether this was psychosomatic or not.

I had snake wine, (booze with dead snakes in) it tasted mainly of far-too-strong liquor and not much else. Same with lizard wine. I drew the line at mouse wine, I didn't really fancy the hairs coming off them and ending up in my drink.

The nearest I've got to imbibing snake/lizard wine was eating the 'worm' from the bottom of a bottle of mezcal.

It was alright.

I've never heard of mouse wine.

arbroath: When the waiter brought it to the table he had it hidden in his jacket so as not to freak out the other diners. I guess even in a Chinese restaurant it didn't get a lot of custom.

Heh, under the jacket sales!

Was it a baby mouse/mice or fully grown?

Dunno about rattlesnake, but one of the best dishes I've ever eaten was at a French country restaurant. Braised rabbit haunches smothered in a heavy wine sauce with asparagus and roasted red potatoes. Heavenly, I tell you.

Only if I were starving to death and there was nothing else.

Here is where that sausage is actually from. I've eaten there plenty of times, the exotic sausages aren't that great to be honest, I've had a few of em

Used to eat rabbit all the time when I was young. Lovely stuff. It's harder to get hold of these days. People who have problems eating rabbit, but don't have problems eating other animals are strange. I suspect a lot of people won't eat rabbit because rabbits are cute. What's cuteness got to do with anything? Lambs are pretty cute to, as are plenty of other commonly eaten animals. I like most animals, especially pigs, but that wouldn't stop me eating them.

I've also eaten snake, but not rattle snake. No matter what you've heard it isn't very like chicken.

However I must say the "exotic" meat I enjoyed the most was crocodile.

I've never eaten rabbit, mainly because it's not readily available in my area. However, I've heard it's one of the most environmentally healthy animals to raise for food, as they can live off of vegetable scraps, reproduce quickly and are easy to kill humanely. They also don't take up the space of larger grazers and don't produce a hugh amount of methane as grazers do. However, there is that cuteness factor...

"Buttery"? There's very little fat in rabbit meat so I presume the buttery feel comes from the snake oil?

arbroath: I don't know if they were fully grown but they certainly had hair, so I guess a bit older than the pinkies in your link. I've no idea how they got them in there. I have visions of ship-in-a-bottle artisans having to poke 'em in, then unfold them. Dehydrated mouse, just add wine?

There's a meat shop near me called "meatmaster" which supplies the colleges. It's like eating my way through a zoo. There's alpaca in the freezer but I've had springbok, zebra, camel etc. My belt would probably be more tender than the camel. But it's good to try new things.

Perhaps they'd perfected the art of 'mouse folding', Ratz.

I seem to recall that if you can fit a pencil into a hole, a mouse can get through.

i dont like rabbit, not because of any cute factor, just because it stinks. Ive tried it lots of ways even curried but its just too gamey and nothing can disguise the way it smells to me

The one time I ate rabbit it was curried, Annemarie.

It tasted okay, I just think it disagreed with me.
