Miracle as driver walks away unharmed from crash after car stops next to statue of Virgin Mary

Motorist Anton Mankowski is claiming a miracle after his car spun out of control and landed on its rear bumper just inches away from a shrine the Virgin Mary.



Anton, 30, walked away with barely a scratch after his Lancia overturned three times before coming to a halt on the road in Olkusz, Poland.

Fire service spokesman Marcin Zebala said: "When we got there we found the driver still trapped in his seat and praying with his head just a few inches away from the statue of the Virgin Mary."



"It had been heading for a line of trees which would have smashed the car and the driver to pieces," he added. Anton added: "The virgin saved my life. It was a miracle and that's all there is to it. I've never been a religious man before, but I am now."
