Traffic wardens given tape measures to fine motorists for parking too far from the kerb

Traffic wardens are going to new lengths to nab drivers, by using tape measures to see how far from the kerb they are parked. And they are giving out £70 fines for those more than 19 inches (50cm) away.

Disgruntled motorists have branded the scheme a tax on motorists. But councils say leaving a big gap can be dangerous for pedestrians and cause traffic jams by narrowing the road.

Officer manager Francis Kileen, 52, said: “The thought of wardens kneeling down and measuring how far drivers are parked from the kerb beggars belief.” Sales representative Caroline Anderson, 48, added: “This is a disgrace.”

Wardens have been issued tape measures by Gwynedd council in North Wales. A spokesman said: “Parking far away from the kerb can restrict visibility for pedestrians wanting to cross the road, block traffic flow and stop emergency services getting through. These new powers will target thoughtless drivers.”

Or...rather than fine (tax) them, make them resit their license, as if they cannot park closer than half a metre from the kerb, they must be in need of either glasses or a rest home.

It isn't a new law, it's always been 50cm for as long as I recall. Thing is if it's left to the warden to judge it by eye then you'll get the innocent fined while the guilty go free. If the law says 50cm then a tape measure seems to be a fair and accurate way of applying the law.

Assuming you don't increase the number of wardens, this may result in fewer tickets as they're wasting their time measuring things and taking photos of the measurements, rather than stopping people who've double parked.

If you can't park within half a metre of the kerb then you shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel.

If you are incapable of placing a car withing half a metre at parking speed I hate to think what your driving is like at speed.

In my opinion, this information will help you to learn more about nursing schools. It was useful for me and my college friends
