Woman returned home to find sex offender folding her laundry

A 26-year-old woman returned home on Christmas day to find a man she'd never seen before folding her laundry in her Irving Park, Chicago, apartment.

The woman said she had been away for Christmas but returned home on Tuesday night with her fiance and found  Paul Edge, 58, sitting cross-legged on her living room floor folding her laundry. "It was pretty scary,'' she said. The woman said she and her fiance both sensed something wrong when they saw a piece of her luggage outside the home.

Her fiance walked in first, and they both spotted Edge. "He was going through my laundry and folding my sports bra,'' she said. "He said he was here to do the dishes.'' Police said he also claimed he had cleaned the apartment. But Edge actually left the place a mess, leaving 15 cigarette butts in the kitchen, she said.

The woman called police, and officers arrived at scene and interviewed Edge, who told them someone let him inside and asked him to clean the home. He was arrested at 9:40 pm at the home. Edge, 58, a registered sex offender, was charged with violation of sex offender registration, a felony, and a misdemeanor count of criminal trespass. A judge set bail at $125,000 on Wednesday.
