Bear cub went on feeding frenzy in home
Phil Volk's grandchildren were visiting, and he thought he heard them rustling around in the kitchen at 6:15 am "Why are you guys up so early?" Volk called. And then in the half light he saw a shadow - the shadow not of a grandchild but of what turned out to be a bear cub that was eating its way around his Sonoita, Arizona, house on Thursday.
"It had been on a feeding frenzy," said Volk. "It pulled the lid off a chocolate cake on the counter and finished that off. It tipped the trash and went through the contents of that. It got into the pantry for chips, bread, jelly beans. It was total disarray. He ate very well." The one thing the 30-pound cub didn't do - after breaking in through a kitchen window - was attack anyone.

"It hissed and ran around the house" before taking refuge in a bedroom, Volk said. "But it didn't attack." Still, this was a bear. A hungry bear. In a house. A house where young grandchildren were visiting. "My wife said: 'We need to call 911,'" Volk said. The 911 operator put them in touch with officers of the Arizona Game and Fish Department.
A department wildlife manager went to the house, tranquilized the bear and removed it, said Karen Klima, department spokeswoman. Klima said the cub, which probably is less than a year old, was too young to be returned to the wild on its own. "The mother was not around, and there have been no sightings of her - so it is possible that the cub was abandoned," she said. The bear was taken to the Heritage Park Zoo in Prescott, where it will live, Klima said.

Truck with Meth Lab written on rear window turned out to be meth lab
Just after 3am on Friday morning, Memphis police doing a routine traffic stop picked up more than just a road violation. Patrol officers stopped a two door Ford truck with the words 'Meth Lab' in the rear window, for driving with antique issued licence plates.
Those types of plates only allow you to drive the vehicle on weekends and special occasions. After making the stop, police discovered that the 43-year-old driver had his licence suspended and that he was on probation for manufacturing of meth.
MPD then did a primary search of the vehicle and discovered what police refer to as a "Shake N Bake" plastic bottle, which is commonly used in rolling meth labs. The suspect was immediately placed into custody and was put in the back of a squad car as the officers began the search on the inside of the truck.
After looking in the cab, undercover officers discovered a second "Shake N Bake" and other ingredients for meth inside under the seat. The suspect has been charged with driving with a suspended licence and other traffic violations and charges for manufacturing of meth are pending.

Five-foot snake found hiding inside port-a-potty
It started out as just another day on the job for Troy Anderson. He works at Casa Grande Rent-A-Can in Arizona. Anderson was cleaning out a port-a-potty at a construction site in Sells when he noticed he wasn't alone.
"I was checking it out. I usually go in there and check for toilet paper first. I heard the water splash around and usually the stuff in there doesn't splash around," said Anderson. When Anderson looked in the john he spotted what looked to be a 5-foot long Coachwhip snake beginning to surface.
With a litter picker in one hand and his smart phone in the other, Troy tried to fish out the serpent. "The litter picker was just flimsy, it was hard to get a hold of him," said Anderson. The two went back and forth for about five minutes before Anderson pulled the snake out of the water and onto the floor.

"After I flung him out. I was kicking dirt at him. I didn't want him coming back," said Anderson. Using the door as a shield, he said he didn't waste any time getting the reptile back into the desert.

Man jumped into lion enclosure at zoo after quarrel with wife
A man was seriously injured after being attacked by a pair of lions when he jumped into their enclosure at the Nandankanan Zoological Park in Bhubaneswar, Orissa, India, on Friday. “The man indentified as Suryanarayan Das (45) from Chhatrapur in Ganjam district all of a sudden climbed on the wall and jumped into the lions enclosure housing male lion, Cris, and lioness, Priyanka.
"We rescued Das within five minutes and rushed him to a hospital,” Zoo assistant director K L Purohit said. He ruled out the possibility of somebody pushing Das into the enclosure. The incident took place at around 1.10 pm when security guards had gone for lunch. As soon as Das fell inside the enclosure, the lioness pounced on him, Purohit said. The lions returned to their cage when people started shouting at them.
“The man touched my feet before jumping into the lion enclosure,” an elderly woman tourist from West Bengal said. Das sustained muliple injuries on his skull, cheeks, neck, legs and hands, said Dr Srikant Mohapatra, the general manager of the private hospital. “Das regained consciousness in the hospital. He has sustained deep bites on hands and legs. Das has admitted to having a quarrel with his wife before coming to the zoo,” Dr Mohapatra said.
He was now stable, Dr Mohapatra said. Stating that this was first such incident at the zoo, Nandankanan deputy director C R Mishra said they strictly follow the Central Zoo Authority guidelines so far as security of visitors is concerned. “Now we will further think about the visitors safety. If someone wants to jump inside the enclosure of animals, no one can help,” Mishra said.

Disabled grandmother used bear spray to fend off 13 attackers after her marijuana crop
It was one disabled woman versus 13 intruders, and she won. The Dixon, California, homeowner, whose identity is being kept hidden, knows what the criminals were after, but wouldn’t let them have it. She went to answer an early morning knock on the door, but not before grabbing a can of bear spray. It was her only defence against 13 intruders.
She was staring down the barrel of a shotgun, facing seemingly impossible odds. Most wouldn’t dare fight back, but this disabled grandmother did. “I’ve always jokingly said, ‘if someone tries to take my income, I’m going to fight. They’re going to have to fight me,’” said the woman. She says the intruders were after her medical marijuana crop in her backyard.

“Running as fast as they can away in two different directions and there was 13 of them,” the woman said. “Put that much energy to come, and take it from someone is just chicken,” she said. It was a matter of principle over medical pot, which is her sole source of income. “I would do it again,” she said. Woman asleep in BHS toilet rescued by fire crews
A woman had to be rescued after she fell asleep in the toilets of a Reading department store and was locked in by staff, police have said.
The 39-year-old became trapped in the BHS store in Broad Street after it closed at 18:00 BST on Saturday.
A passer-by called 999 when they saw the woman calling for help from a first floor window at about 21:15 BST.
Fire crews used an aerial platform to reach the unharmed woman before she was taken home by police.

Students tricked into thinking they'd been molested at hypnotist show
Students were shocked when a fun hypnosis show included members of the audience performing erotic dances and being tricked into thinking they'd been indecently touched. The show, at the Universities at Medway's Coopers bar, was part of Freshers' Week activities for new students. It was advertised as the chance to "watch your new friends transformed into aliens and superheroes. One to remember!"
But it ended up being remembered for the wrong reasons after hypnotist Colin Adamson caused controversy with a show featuring sexual acts. Participants were made to perform tasks including lap dances, ogling the opposite sex and imagining others naked. Adamson told two women, hypnotised into performing a lap dance, "When you wake up, you will think he touched you up just now". After doing so, one girl was said to be too upset to speak while the other said she would castrate the audience member with a spoon.
University of Kent feminist society president Natasha Sadaeva said she was shocked and disgusted. She said: "He shows a lack of empathy towards rape victims and all women, and a lack of basic human decency – he has no place at a student union." But Mr Adamson said the show was intended to be humorous. "It wasn't a sex show by any means," he said. "That was just one routine out of a lot of routines, which included people riding horses and making all kinds of funny noises. This is the first time I have had this reaction to the show, which I've been performing for 10 years and when I was performing in Coopers the laughter was very loud.
"The majority of the audience got what it was intended to be – comedy." A Kent Union spokesman said: "Following the hypnotist event we investigated it thoroughly and have since reviewed our due diligence procedures for booking of acts. As a result of this event, we will not be booking this particular act again and we have tightened up our procedures. Colin Adamson has previously been booked by a number of other student unions across the UK, as well as other national companies. To date we have yet to receive a complaint regarding the event and on the evening, no one left or walked out."

Woman claims mystery person is shaving her cat's fur every other day
A concerned woman claims a mystery pet hairdresser is shaving her cat. Stephanie Warton, 60, of Shirley in the London Borough of Croydon, is desperate to find the person responsible for shearing her beloved Barney. She said: "It's a complete mystery, whoever is doing it does another little bit every day so they think I won't notice, but I'm not stupid. I want to find them so I can shave their hair off and see how they like it."
Mrs Warton noticed her pet was sporting a shorter look then usual eight months ago after he returned from one of his usual jaunts outdoors. She said: "It seems to happen every other day or so. First his mane was cut short. He used to have a shaggy bob but now there's nothing there. Then gradually I noticed his stomach had been shaved, and his legs. He used to have three-inch hair and now in places it's barely half an inch long.
"It's crazy. I have done everything; I have asked neighbours if they know anything.I've contacted the RSPCA and pet shops, I have even put labels on his collar saying leave my cat alone, but when he comes home the collar has gone. I must have bought about eight different collars but as soon as he comes home at the end of the day the collar is gone and his hair's been cut. I have even tried following him but I still don't know what's going on."
Mrs Warton is concerned that, as winter approaches, Barney will suffer without his long coat. She said: "Now that his top coat has been mysteriously cut off, he has no protection from the rain or cold and I am worried about him. I want to put a tracker device on him so I can find the person who is doing this. It looks like professional work and I desperately want to report them for it. If anyone could help me figure out who is doing this, or think of any way I can stop it from happening, I'd be awfully grateful. I miss my long-haired cat."
