90-year-old man on assault charges after punching nightclub bouncer

An allegedly "belligerent" 90-year-old man got in a fight with bar staff and punched a bouncer, before taking several swings at police who came to break up the scuffle in Canberra, Australia, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

ACT Policing said they arrested the Turner man and he was charged with three counts of common assault for the incident outside a Northbourne Avenue bar.

"Around 1.10am today [Saturday], the man became involved in an altercation with bar security staff and allegedly punched a bouncer," they said in a statement. "City Beats police on foot patrol in the immediate area attended quickly. The elderly man remained agitated and belligerent with the security staff, and was led away by police.

"The man swung several punches and kicked out at police. He was then conveyed to the ACT Watch House where he was charged with three counts of common assault." The man has been released on bail and was ordered to appear in court on February 26.
