Court escape attempt ended up in murder trial dock

A man who tried to escape from a court was back in custody within minutes after he ran into the secured dock of a murder trial which was in progress.

Peter Stearnes, 30, was at Northampton Crown Court on Thursday charged with dangerous driving and a breach of bail.

He made the attempt to run away while being escorted to cells, a spokesperson for the court service said. But he was captured when he ran into the dock where four suspects were standing trial for murder.

The spokesperson said nobody was injured during the attempted escape. Mr Stearnes, of Avon Drive, Kings Heath, was yet to enter a plea. He is due in front of the court again on 22 April.
