Butcher not best pleased with image carved into new concrete driveway behind his shop

An obscene image has been carved into the concrete driveway behind a Surrey councillor’s shop. Simon Thornton, also known as the Godalming Butcher, was not best pleased when he found the 6ft-long piece of vandalism depicting male genitalia.

Cllr Thornton owns the High Street butchers and is on the town and borough council as well as the Godalming Chamber of Commerce committee. He had just paid out £3,500 to cover the three parking spaces when the incident occurred.

Cllr Thornton said: “I was happy with how it was all looking and locked up and went home for the night. But when I came back the next morning I was faced with the image. It is huge.

“I can’t really afford to have it all re-done so I have done my best to scrub it out and make sure I place my car carefully over it every day. I told PCSO Dan Burrel about it but no more action has been taken. I don’t think it was a personal attack, just mindless vandalism.”
