An man has been left red-faced after driving the wrong car home from the shops. At about 8.30am last Thursday, a man called police after he had seen his grey Hyundai hatchback being driven away from where he had parked it.
Unfortunately, the man had left his keys in the ignition and the car unlocked when he went in to the store in Stansbury, in the Yorke Peninsula, South Australia. Police acted quickly, with backup patrols assisting from Yorketown, Ardrossan, Maitland and Port Wakefield to make sure the (possibly) stolen car would be contained to the Yorke Peninsula area.
Stansbury patrols attended the scene and noticed a grey Toyota hatchback (also unlocked, no keys in the ignition) parked next to where the missing Hyundai had been parked. Several enquiries later, the Hyundai was located in the driveway of a very apologetic Stansbury man, who had driven the wrong car home.
The Hyundai was returned to the man at the shops, and the forgetful driver was taken by police back to his Toyota. No charges were laid in relation to the incident.
