92-year-old Renee A’Bear, who has lived for the past eight years at Eridge House Residential Home in Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, likes to to sit out in the garden and feed the birds.
But last Wednesday a seagull swooped as she was relaxing with a coffee and stole her false teeth from a table beside her. The bird flew onto a nearby roof-top with its booty, only to discard Renee’s dentures when it realised they were uneatable.
Home manager Mrs Linda Stevens said: “Poor Renee came in crying her eyes out and absolutely distraught at having lost her teeth. Luckily her carers, Melanie Marchant and Gill Roy, found a ladder and while Gill steadied it, Mel climbed up to retrieve the stolen dentures.”
Linda added: “All of us, including Renee, have since seen the funny side, but I think she’s going to be a bit more circumspect in future as to which birds she favours with tit-bits from her table.”
